Quest for the Shattered Star

Finding Natalia

Now four, the novice Pathfinders set out again to track down Natalia and whatever she had found. Garrett guided them to the dwelling of Fenster the Blight. Along the way, the group continued to feel each other out and learn about their newest group member. Balthazar, it appeared, really liked alcohol, though it didn’t seem to slow him down. It certainly was an avenue for bonding between Calidon and Balthazar. Plans were made to get to know each other better over an expensive bottle of whiskey liberated from Plutavarch Dremis.
Fenster was as disgusting as advertised and equally disagreeable. In order to learn what they wanted, the group needed to look past Fenster’s myriad diseases and physical deformities. Unfortunately, getting past those obstacles only brought one face to face with Fenster’s greed. While the rest of the party debated if they could meet Fenster’s demands, Garrett took matters into his own hands and procured the information they needed. He was evasive as to what it took to get Fenster’s cooperation, but they learned that Natalia was holed up in an abandoned warehouse.
Approaching the warehouse, the group was stopped by a couple of scarnii thugs. Deciding to disregard their demand to keep on moving, Calidon rushed forward to confront the thugs. One thug met Calidon’s charge while the other raced away around the side of the warehouse. Garrett gave chase. After a moment’s delay, Malzahar followed Garrett and Balthazar remained with Calidon.
Calidon quickly defeated his opponent and he and Balthazar followed the other two. Meanwhile, Garrett decided that speed was a much better tactic than caution. Following closely on the heals of the second guard, Garrett entered the warehouse through a side door and found the interior falling apart. Floors and ceilings were falling apart and sewage had filled the basement. There was a rickety plank spanning the chasm into the slime filled basement which Garrett followed the guard across. This is where things began to unravel.
The warehouse was well fortified. Crossbow bolts started coming towards Garrett and the others as they entered. Malzahar was not able to traverse the plank and fell into the sewage filled basement. Goblins living in the sewers had broken thru to the basement and raced to attack Malzahar. The guard stopped at the opposite end of the plank and met Garrett at the exit to the room. Calidon and Balthazar entered the warehouse to find the others hard-pressed. Balthazar by accident or design entered the basement to aid Malzahar while Calidon moved forward in support of Garrett.
Garrett managed to put down his opponent and continued on, trying to find a way to take out the crossbow snipers. Meanwhile, more goblins entered the basement slowing Calidon and the rest.

Ultred, Captain of the Guard

After giving the reward for Plutavarch, Percival took the group to meet the guard captain, Ultred. Initially, Ultred was unimpressed with the three adventurers that were brought before him, but upon learning that they were aspiring Pathfinders, some of his vaneer of indifference fell away. He explained how many years before he too was a Pathfinder. Though mostly retired, he still passed information on to the chapterhouse in Magnimar if he thought it was worth Shiela Heidmarch’s attention. He was taken by the bluster and swagger of Calidon and graciously offered the opportunity for the three novice pathfinders to upgrade their weapons from his private collection. When Ultred was asked if he had any information about Natalia Vankaskater or the scarnii she was rumored to bew running with, The Tower Girls, he suggested a visit to Fenster the Blight. A thoroughly disreputable character from Undergbridge.
Before trying to gain information from Fenster, Ultred, Malzahar and Garrick returned to Pathfinder chapterhouse, to update Shiela and determine what they had recovered from Plutavarch. After hearing their report, Shiela told them to continue but suggested they take along Balthazar a cleric of Cayden Cailean from Last Wall who had recently arrived in Magnimar.

Plutivarch Dremis

Apparently, the group had been set up by Plutivarch Dremis hoping to turn over Pathfinders to the Aspis Corp. His plan failed when he underestimated Garrett and Malzahar. He managed to incapacitate Calidon, but the others pressed the attack until Plutivarch dropped. During the interrogation, Malzahar remembered there was a reward for the capture of their prisoner. They retired for the night and turned Plutivargh over to Lt Percival the next morning

The Puffy Pelican

It was agreed that Garrett would scout out the Puffy Pelican while Calidon and Malzahar would check with the Arvensoar Guard to see if they could get any other information.
Garrett determined the tavern was abandoned settled down for the others to return.
Meanwhile, sans creampuffs, Calidon and Malzahar were escorted into the presence of Percival, the officer of the day at the Justicar building. He confirmed that there were rumors of Natalia running with a group of female cat burglers, but the guards had no more information as to her current whereabouts. Calidon and Malzahar headed to the docks where they joined up with Garrett.
Over dinner plans were made and the trio set out to arrive at the Puffy Pelican before the scheduled arrival of the slavers at midnight. When they approached the tavern, it was obvious that someone else had gotten there before them as light seeped from the boarded up windows. Leaving Malzahar in the alley behind the building to alert them if anyone else should arrive, Calidon and Garrett entered the tavern.
Immediately, upon entering the common room, Calidon was felled by a dazzling display of colors. Garrett managed to avert his eyes just in time and was unaffected. He spied a figure that had suddenly appeared in front of him and rushed to attack. Before he was able to close with the figure, he was hit by bolts of force that staggerd him. Badly wounded, Garrett looked for an opening to drop his opponent.
Outside, Malzahar heard a loud crash from the interior and decided to investigate. Avoiding stumbling over the prone form of Calidon, he saw a weakened and bloody Garrett fighting a someone. Suspecting that Garrett could use some help, Malzahar cast a healing spell on his injured companion and then drew the attention of the figure Garrett was fighting. That was the opening Garrett needed as he deftly moved past his oppenent and thanks to Malzahar’s distraction was able to land a blow with his sword that dropped his opponent. Realizing they needed information from this man, Malzahar was able to staunch the bleeding and keep him alive. Calidon, meanwhile, started to stir.

Meeting the Amazing Zograthy

Seeking information on the whereabouts of Natalia Vancaskerkin, the trio of novice pathfinders set out for Underbridge to find the Amazing Zograthy. Zograthy is known information peddler in Underbridge. Malzahar changed out of his fine robes to fit in a little better, but there was no disguising the foreigness of Calidon, nor did he choose to. Garrett, familiar with the seedy neighborhood, chose to travel slightly apart from the others to make sure nothing untowards happened and to maintain a degree on anonymity.
The meeting with Zograthy was a success as he suggested the trio investigate the Puffy Pelican a tavern in Dockside. He believed that a meeting was to take place that evening where certain merchandise was to be turned over to slavers. That merchandise may or may not include Natalia and what she had found.
Zograthy however, seemed to take an unusual interest in Malzahar, due to Malzahar’s mix of insight and crypticness.

The Battle of the Table

When Calidon entered the chapterhouse he met a local tough named Garrett and a studious young man named Malzahar. They were tasked by Sheila Heidmarch to open a paradox box. Malzahar managed to open the box and out jumped 3 pugwampis. In an amazing display of ferocity, Calidon managed to destroy an antique table. Each of the young adventurers succeded in killing one of the creatures. Shiela was not too pleased with the result, but still allowed the three to begin an investigation into the disapearence of Natalia Vancaskerkin.

Caladon leaves his clan

Calidon, the barbarian, met the great Gilthanis, hero of Varisia, now known as Silverhawk. Gilthanis was exploring a cavern system sacred to Calidon’s clan. He destroyed a nest of undead. Calidon aided him by warning of an assasin that Gilthanis failed to notice. In appreciation Gilthanis invited Calidon to travel with him to the Pathfinder chapter house in Magnimar.
